* The questions relating to English Language in the syllabus will be set in English only in the Telugu/Urdu versions of the question paper also.

Public Services Code as recommended by the 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission

Define mantle plume and explain its role in plate tectonics

Mantle plume is an up-welling of abnormally hot rock within the earth’s mantle which carries heat upward in narrow, rising columns, driven by heat exchange across the core-mantle boundary. Eventually, the rising column of hot rock reaches the base of the lithosphere, where it spreads out, forming a mushroom-shaped cap to the plume.  Geophysicist, W. Jason Morgan, developed the hypothesis of mantle plumes in 1971. The largest (and most persistent) mantle plumes are presumed to form where a large volume of mantle rock is heated at the core-mantle boundary, about 1800 miles below the surface, although smaller plumes may originate elsewhere within the mantle. 1. What is the percentage of reservation for women?  A Minimum of 30 % of all vacancies are allotted for Woman Applicants. Women applicants are eligible for 30% of vacancies in each Communal Category and General Category based on the Rule of Reservation. Women/Transgender (Female) candidates shall be eligible to compete in the said 30% reservation. They shall also be entitled to compete in the remaining 70% of the vacancies along with Male Candidates/Third Gender/Third Gender (Male) applicants.  2. I have e-Community Certificate only as an evidence to substantiate the claim of my Community. Would it suffice or do I have to get Community Certificate in life card?  The e-Community Certificate is sufficient. It is not necessary to furnish a Community Certificate in life Card format. 3. Which documents are required to be sent to the UPSC for legal cases?

In legal re-imbursement cases, the following documents are required to be furnished:-  a) Completed proforma;  b) Certified Copy of the judgment;  c) Stamped receipts for fees paid to lawyers;  d) Original Claim of the Claimant;  e) Certified copy of order sheet or a certificate showing the number of days on which the case was posted for hearing and on which it was actually heard.  f) In cases where the claims involved are for an amount exceeding Rs. 500/- the views of the Ministry of Law/Law Officer on the admissibility and reasonableness of the claim should be obtained before the case is placed before the Commission.
