* The questions relating to English Language in the syllabus will be set in English only in the Telugu/Urdu versions of the question paper also. 

Note: In case any dispute about any question or answer, the decision taken by the Subject Expert Committee shall be final. The Board does not prescribe any particular textbook or publication and is not bound by the material appearing in any book or publication.

Foreigners role in the Indian struggle for freedom

Several foreigners made India their homeland and participated in various movements. (i) A.O. Hume was founded INC in 1885. He was a liberal British Civil Servant sympathetic to India’s freedom struggle and worked for Congress in India. He is known as ‘Father of Indian Ornithology’.  (ii) Annie Besant of Ireland, founded Home Rule League and the Theosophical society in India. She also edited ‘New India and Commonwealth’.  (iii)Sister Nivedita was Scots-Irish social worker, author and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. She had close associates with the Ramakrishna Mission during its inception. Her epitaph reads “Here reposes Sister Nivedita who gave her all to India”.  (iv)C.F. Andrews worked with Gandhi in South Africa and also in India. He was known as “Deenbandhu”, and he denounced Begari in Himachal. He organized relief operation for Orissa flood victims and earthquakes of Bihar.

Public Services Code as recommended by the 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission

Deforestation its causes and solution

Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forested ones. According to an estimate, almost 40 per cent forests have been lost in the tropics, compared to only 1 per cent in the temperate region. The present scenario of deforestation is particularly grim in India.  At the beginning of the twentieth century, forests covered about 30 per cent of the land of India. By the end of the century, it shrunk to 21.54 per cent, whereas the National Forest Policy (1988) of India has recommended 33 per cent forest cover for the plains and 67 per cent for the hills.  How does deforestation occur? If only PART-I of the application is submitted without submitting PART-II, the application remains incomplete and candidature cannot be registered. The application is incomplete even in cases where the applicant has submitted PART-I and paid fee as well, but has not completed PART-II (i.e. failed to submit Centre, photograph, signature and photo ID card).
