PART-I of the UPSC application is submitted but not submitted PART-II

If only PART-I of the application is submitted without submitting PART-II, the application remains incomplete and candidature cannot be registered. The application is incomplete even in cases where the applicant has submitted PART-I and paid fee as well, but has not completed PART-II (i.e. failed to submit Centre, photograph, signature and photo ID card).

Formation of thousands of islands in Indonesian and Philippines

An archipelago (sometimes known as a island group or a island chain) is a chain, cluster or collection of islands. Archipelago may be found isolated in bodies of water or neighbouring a large landmass. Many of them are located in the western Pacific Ocean. Rohini Satellite RS-1

RS-1 was a 35 kg experimental spin stabilized satellite designed with a power handling capability of 16W. It was successfully launched onboard SLV-3 from SHAR Centre on July 18, 1980 into an orbit of 305 x 919 km with an inclination of 44.7°. All the fourth stage parameters of SLV-3 were successfully telemetered to the ground stations by RS-1 during the launch phase.  The satellite had an orbital life of 9 months. The satellite carried Digital sun sensor, Magnetometer and temperature sensors. The evolution and significance of the slogan, ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’

‘Jai Jawan jai Kisan’ was a slogan given by the Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1965. It means – ‘hail the soldier and hail the farmer’. Soon after Shastri took over the Prime Ministership of India after Nehru’s death. India was attacked by Pakistan and at the same time India was facing the scarcity of food-grains.  Shastri gave the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan to enthuse the soldiers to defend India and simultaneously cheering farmers to do the best to increase the production of foodgrains to reduce dependence on import. Also at that time US suspended all food aid to India due to Indo-Pak war, so the government was compelled to take measures like rationing, creation of state Food Trading Corporation but it did not serve the purpose completely. The Committee on Public Undertakings is a Parliamentary Committee consisting of 22 Members, fifteen of whom are elected by the Lok Sabha every year from amongst its Members according to the principle of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote and seven Members to be nominated by Rajya Sabha for being associated with the Committee. Define mantle plume and explain its role in plate tectonics

Mantle plume is an up-welling of abnormally hot rock within the earth’s mantle which carries heat upward in narrow, rising columns, driven by heat exchange across the core-mantle boundary. Eventually, the rising column of hot rock reaches the base of the lithosphere, where it spreads out, forming a mushroom-shaped cap to the plume.  Geophysicist, W. Jason Morgan, developed the hypothesis of mantle plumes in 1971. The largest (and most persistent) mantle plumes are presumed to form where a large volume of mantle rock is heated at the core-mantle boundary, about 1800 miles below the surface, although smaller plumes may originate elsewhere within the mantle.
