PART-I of the UPSC application is submitted but not submitted PART-II

If only PART-I of the application is submitted without submitting PART-II, the application remains incomplete and candidature cannot be registered. The application is incomplete even in cases where the applicant has submitted PART-I and paid fee as well, but has not completed PART-II (i.e. failed to submit Centre, photograph, signature and photo ID card).

T-20 World Cup final between Pakistan vs England at Melbourne

Chasing a target of 138 runs, England were 61/3 in 8 overs against Pakistan in the final of T-20 World cup Cricket at Melbourne, when reports last came in. Earlier, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Pakistan made 137 in the stipulated 20 overs losing eight wickets. In Semifinal, Pakistan had defeated New Zealand by seven wickets while  England reached final beating India by 10 wickets in 2nd semifinal.

The 73rd Amendment along with 74th is called a silent revolution. The most revolutionary provision is said to be the reservation of one-third of the seats for women in local bodies (including the number of seats reserved for women belonging to the SCs and STs). The Pahari region comprises the present State of Himachal Pradesh, some adjoining areas of the Punjab, the area of Union Territory of Jammu in the Jammu and Kashmir State and Garhwal in Uttar Pradesh. The whole of this area was divided into small States ruled by the Rajput princes and were often engaged in welfare. These States were centres of great artistic activity from the latter half of the 17th to nearly the middle of the 19th century. 1 . BASOHLI The earliest centre of painting in the Pahari region was Basohli where under the patronage of Raja Kripal Pal, an artist named Devidasa executed miniatures in the form of the Rasamanjari illustrations in 1694 A.D. There is one more series of the Rasamanjari miniatures painted in the same style and almost of the same period but appears to be in a different hand. Contributions of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and Dr. M. S. Swaminathan in the fields of water engineering and agricultural

Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was a civil engineer and statesman. He made contributions to several technical projects in his career in Hyderabad, Mysore, Maharashtra and Orissa. The Great KRS Dam was his excellent work instrumental in converting the barren lands into fertile grounds for farming. M.S. Swaminathan in the other hand is an advocate of moving India to sustainable development, especially using environmentally sustainable agriculture, sustainable food security and the preservation of biodiversity, which he calls as “evergreen revolution.”  Following are the contributions of Sir M. Coastal sand mining and the impact of sand mining along the Indian coasts

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report, ‘Sand and Sustainability: Finding new solutions for environmental governance of global sand resources’, that highlights the problem of sand being extracted at rates exceeding natural replenishment rates. Coastal sand mining poses one of the biggest threats to our environment:  •While 85% to 90% of global sand demand is met from quarries, and sand and gravel pits, 10% to 15% extracted from rivers and seashores is a severe concern due to the environmental and social impacts.  •Their extraction often results in river and coastal erosion and threats to freshwater and marine fisheries and aquatic ecosystems, instability of river banks leading to increased flooding, and lowering of groundwater levels.  •The UNEP report notes that China and India head the list of critical hotspots for sand extraction impacts in rivers, lakes and coastlines.  •As per the report, most large rivers of the world have lost betwee...

Foreigners role in the Indian struggle for freedom

Several foreigners made India their homeland and participated in various movements. (i) A.O. Hume was founded INC in 1885. He was a liberal British Civil Servant sympathetic to India’s freedom struggle and worked for Congress in India. He is known as ‘Father of Indian Ornithology’.  (ii) Annie Besant of Ireland, founded Home Rule League and the Theosophical society in India. She also edited ‘New India and Commonwealth’.  (iii)Sister Nivedita was Scots-Irish social worker, author and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. She had close associates with the Ramakrishna Mission during its inception. Her epitaph reads “Here reposes Sister Nivedita who gave her all to India”.  (iv)C.F. Andrews worked with Gandhi in South Africa and also in India. He was known as “Deenbandhu”, and he denounced Begari in Himachal. He organized relief operation for Orissa flood victims and earthquakes of Bihar.
